About the Recipe
If there’s one dessert that feels like a warm hug, it’s Malva Pudding.
Rich, moist, and soaked in a creamy sauce, this South African classic is perfect for Sunday lunches and family celebrations. It’s one of those puddings that everyone goes back for "just one more spoonful."

Ingredients
Pudding:
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tbsp smooth apricot jam
1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 tbsp butter (melted)
1 tsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
1 cup milk
Sauce:
1 cup fresh cream
6 tbsp butter
½ cup sugar
½ cup hot water
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 180°C. Grease a medium-sized deep baking dish.
In a large bowl, beat the sugar and eggs together until thick and pale.
Stir in the apricot jam.
In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Melt the butter and add it to the egg mixture along with the vinegar.
Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the egg mixture, stirring well after each addition.
Pour the batter into the prepared dish. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and firm to the touch.
While the pudding bakes, heat all the sauce ingredients in a pot until the sugar is dissolved and the butter is melted (do not boil).
As soon as the pudding comes out of the oven, poke small holes with a fork and pour the hot sauce over it slowly. Let it soak in.
Serve warm with custard or ice cream!
